You know your business better than I possibly can. You have good in-house people; if they can't solve the problem, it's not an expertise issue.

I have three advantages: I'm an outsider, I'm overly logical, and I have decades of experience.

Since I'm an outsider I bring a different perspective to your problem. Sometimes that's all it takes. It gives me insight into areas that you take for granted, areas that you may not even know exist.

Most people reason about a problem with practicality in mind. Where other people stop, I take the process a few steps further and sometimes come out the other side with a different solution.

I've worked in business for decades. I've spent that time observing what worked and what didn't, both in my areas of responsibility and others. I apply ideas as well as specific techniques from my experience to your situation.

It's like the way people get lost following directions; studies have shown that they gave up when they could have gone a little bit farther and found their goal. I just push logic a little further.

But I'm not a head in the clouds type, if that's what you are worried about. I've worked my entire life as a part of or consultant to management, solving real world problems and dealing with the same day to day bottom line realities that you have.

It's not that I have experience in your particular business - if that could solve the problem you'd have solved it already - it's that I have a deep understanding of what makes business work and the ability to apply that to all kinds of situations.
